A dab on the back of the neck with cooling peppermint really helped. When we were doing yoga and generating extra body heat, the Peppermint was whipped out to cool us down and was passed round to those in need!
Melaleuca – antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic, anti-flying insects (repellent)
I used this every day on the soles my feet as a means of a bit of protection from any potential “nasty’s”. It’s one of those safe oils which is handy if you cut or graze yourself (along with lavender) so a must for holiday time.
Lavender – an alternative to apply to achy muscles and just to relax in general.
I think someone used this for a headache… but it’s also good for sunburn and well known for aiding sleep. It's an underestimated essential oil, it's list of uses are endless. A must for every home (and holiday!)
Lemon – added to my water – delicious!
doTERRA’s essential oils, some of them are safe to ingest. The citrus oils are so tasty in water and actually make you drink more water ‘cos they taste so good. One important “must” is that you only drink oiled water from a glass, ceramic or metal container because they break down plastic, so no good in bottled water. An additional warning - you should be careful with citrus oils on the skin in direct sunlight as they can be photosensitive. It means that if you want to use them on the skin, make sure you're covered up so there can be no reaction.
Frankincense – skin rejuvenation
I used a factor 50 on my skin but still applied my affectionately named “Frankie” anyway, it’s anti-aging and helps to repair skin damage, and we all know too much sun is not good for those with Caucasian skin. It’s like Lavender in the way it helps to heal the skin.
On Guard – I’d left home just finishing off with a cough so I was using it anyway but in particular for the plane. I did not want to pick up anything else. I hear of many people catching something either on the way to their holiday destination or returning, often from the plane journey. Also as an anti-bac for hands (I don’t particularly like the alcohol based anti-bac's as they dry my hands out). This was another oil applied to the soles of my feet. A great immune system booster.
Deep Blue – aches and pains
Oh my! My legs from climbing steps in/out of pyramids and just lots of walking at sites. Since I’d ruptured a calf muscle earlier last year it was still a bit weak so I really felt it in my legs through lack of exercise. There was a few of us that enjoyed using this!!! Especially at the Red Pyramid where we climbed so many steps down and then back up to get out. This oil is probably my most used oil as I use it for a lot of my massage treatments.
Digestzen – for all tummy problems
I was very grateful for having a good tummy whilst I was away, no upsets at all. There was one day where one of our party had stomach pain and she used this blend by rubbing a few drops in a clockwise motion onto her belly. It had a pretty instant calming effect. As it happened, the cause of her tummy upset was an energetic one, she was so sensitive to what she was seeing out the window. One part of the Nile we were driving past was so polluted being treated as a rubbish dump. Whilst Digestzen didn’t cure the rubbish piles in the water, it helped ease the distress/anxiety-like physical sensations my friend was experiencing. You see, essential oils work on the emotional and spiritual too, it’s not just about the physical. They’re so clever.
Breathe – clearing sinuses!
This was one I used every day, particularly for our yoga in the mornings. Every morning my sinuses were so blocked which made nostril breathing exercises a challenge!! A dab under the nose and over my sinuses got them clearing pretty quickly. This was another oil that was passed around the yoga class. Also I was having allergic reactions (wheezy/asthma and itchy throat) so this helped soothed those symptoms along with the remains of my cough.
Terrashield - insect repellent
Believe me, the mozzies love my blood. This blend is good for me, it works but after two hours I must re-apply else they start nibbling at me. There is a general 2-hour rule with essential oils which has been demonstrated on two separate occasions for me, one with a blend for hayfever and another with On Guard where symptoms returned straight on the two hours mark. The same applies with Terrashield for me.
I'm so blessed as I'm returning to Egypt in April this year so I get to take my oils away with me again. They like to travel it seems and love to be shared around too.
If you've got any questions or want some oils for your holiday - let me know and I'd love to go through the best ones for you.
